Polar Ice Play

Today we were inspired by this post on Irresistible Ideas for Play Based Learning about an activity done at Ringwood Uniting Preschool.

We live in the southwest US, where is gets hot hot in summer, so we're always looking for easy ways to cool off in the afternoons. For this activity, we froze bowls of ice, tipped them out into a plastic tub, added white stones and flat glass marbles (both purchased from Dollar Tree), and played pretend with plastic Arctic animals.

Naturally, she had to taste.

"Yum!"

"Do do do, me elk!"

"Do do do, elk on Mom."

Even the baby got in on the chilly action.

This looks like such fun! WI doesn't get that hot in the summer but we still do a lot of ice play. Have to try and pick up some polar animals sometime soon to add to the fun. Thanks for sharing this on the outdoor play party!
